The other day I stumbled upon a fascinating article at www.techworld.com on the growth of servers running business applications using Linux. Of course, this is based strictly on predictions by CIO’s in the tech industry, but nevertheless, is actually very surprising. What’s more is they predict that by the year 2012, 50% of all Enterprise level companies will be running mission-critical applications on Linux based servers! This is a significant jump from previous years as Microsoft has been the dominant leader by cornering the market with their flagship product – Windows. Personally, I think this is great news for the industry as a whole.

My promise to you is that we will continue to implement both Linux and Windows operating systems on FastServers.Net servers for all our Enterprise customers requiring customized, high-end solutions. This is especially true since both operating systems will be competing in a 50/50 split battle to conquer the hosting market. That makes it very easy to continue support for the operating systems. However, I do feel that the concept of “open source” will slowly fade away and Linux will soon be known as a powerhouse operating system. And, Linux may even become the major player for all levels of hosting. But please bear in mind that only the future will tell us for sure what the outcome will ultimately be in this head-to-head competition between two very powerful contenders in the world of operating systems.

As we continue to support both high-end Linux and Windows operating systems at FastServers.Net, please note the majority of our customers already use Linux as their preferred choice of a well-supported operating system. As a result, the FastServers.Net team has spent the last several months working hard to continue to push and prepare high-end Linux systems to customers running large solutions or mission-critical applications. We have also taken the necessary steps to fully train our staff on how to design, implement, support and customize Linux based servers and solutions. Ultimately, we feel this is the wave of the future and will keep you updated on the latest news and happenings regarding FastServers.Net and both Linux and Windows based servers.
