cPanel Exploit Update: Managed Dedicated Servers are Secured!

The FastServers.Net team of engineers have completed a major update across all managed cPanel dedicated servers on our network. As of 1PM, CST 100% of all managed dedicated servers received the necessary updates to insure they were up to date and secure.

The cPanel exploit allowed the possibility of privilege escalation, allowing an attacker with access to a local account to gain root privileges on the server. The cPanel exploit become public on September 23rd at which time a team of support engineers started the process of updating all managed dedicated servers. Zero managed dedicated servers were exploited at the time of this writing.

FastServers.Net is encouraging self-managed dedicated servers to get in contact with our support team to discuss the simple upgrade to their servers.

Managed Dedicated servers include customers that subscribe to DEFCON 3, DEFCON 2, and DEFCON 1 Management Services. All DEFCON 4 and DEFCON 5 customers will need to perform the updates or work directly with our team of engineers to get this patch applied.

“It was important that we quickly assemble a team to insure the security of our managed clients, as this exploit could have led to servers being compromised and potential data loss and embarrassment for the server operators. I am very pleased with our security response team’s ability to provide what I consider record-breaking deployment of the patch.” said Matt Doyle, Director of West Operations for FastServers.Net.
