Ian Andrusyk, President & CEO of FastServers.Net. This is not your ordinary executive and business owner. As a 50% co-founder of FastServers, Inc., Ian has been building his hosting service company since he was 15 years old. Dating back to 1996 with the introduction of PowerSurge Technologies, Ian started the company while he was still in high school. When he wasn't studying math and science, he was studying how to build what is known today as one of the top twenty hosting providers in the world. Not bad for a high school student running a business out of his parents' basement. Ian's late nights working on servers and providing support to customers on the phone is a thing of the past.
Ian now spends his time growing FastServers.Net, with the expansion of a third data center in downtown Chicago, and three office locations spanning three states. Even though Ian started the business in Cedar Falls, IA, he's now settled firmly in the new downtown Chicago headquarters where he and co-founder Travis, spend their time monitoring the company's continuous achievements. In fact, Ian has accomplished something rarely seen in the hosting industry. He has kept the company's core executive team together at the helm; a very unique trait in an industry where companies are merged or sold almost as often as technology changes.
As Ian continues to advance the company's growth by expanding into new markets with additional data centers, his primary goal is to ensure the highest quality of services at the core level. Now at three data centers and thirty-five employees, the business he carefully constructed over ten years ago, is set to take advantage of new opportunities in the industry. Ian's recognition as an industry leader has provided him opportunities to speak at industry specific events. A recent event was HostingCon 2006, where Ian was a keynote speaker at a round table discussion with other prominent hosting leaders. The event proved to be a huge success as Ian's company continues to pave the way for all other providers.
Outside
of the company, Ian has a wide range of hobbies, more accurately described
as obsessions. But these obsessions are worth noting. Check this out.
Ian recently completed the Honolulu
marathon where he helped raise money to benefit
HIV/AIDS research. And, he ran the marathon in 4 hours and 8 minutes!
Congratulations Ian. Could he have done it in less time? Well, Ian
claims a part of the run included a three mile stretch up Diamond
Head volcano. If it wasn't for the stretch, Ian says he could have
made it well under 4 hours. Still, that's not bad for a top 10% finish
in the 5th largest marathon in the USA. Recently Ian ran the Nashville
marathon with his fastest run yet. He finished in 3H 44M! What's next
for Ian's adventures in marathon running? According to other sources,
he's back at it again, training for another marathon being held in
Chicago, IL. Ian hopes to one day qualify for the Boston marathon,
but he'll settle for beating George W. Bush's ridiculously good time.
Enjoying biking almost as much as running a complete 26 mile marathon, Ian participates every year in RAGBRAI, the largest state-long street bicycle ride of its kind. With his Specialized Roubaix street bicycle, Ian is "geared" to take on the streets of the world, cruising uphill and downhill on his "all carbon fiber" light bike. We tried to get Ian to announce what kind of bicycle he'll get next, but since he plans on riding the Roubaix until the wheels fall off, we didn't get any details on his next two-wheel cruiser. However, we did catch him saying that it will cost a bazillion dollars! This just in - Ian has retired his original Specialized Roubaix street bicycle with a new 2007 Specialized S-Works Tarmac Dura-Ace! Watch out racers, Ian's new lightweight Specialized street cycle gives him the advantage of taking first place.
When Ian's not riding across the States on his Specialized Roubaix, he's usually teeing off on some of the classiest golf courses around Chicago. Want to take a guess at who he consistently beats every time they reach the 18th hole? Yes, that's right. Good ole Travis. Typical golf score for Ian – he always says it's 72 – but an anonymous source says that he really shoots a 95! Don't tell anyone we said that. Golf outings are just a small sample of Ian's weekend. When the Chicago weather is warm (by warm we mean 60 degrees), the rest of Ian's weekends are filled with beach volleyball in the white sands of Lake Michigan. Watch out for that mean spike Ian hits every time! Yikes, I got sand in my eyes.
Okay, so Ian's a serious street cyclist, a 92-scoring golfer, and a beach volleyball player with a killer spike. Does he participate in any other sports? Nah. He's just not talented enough to play anything else, including baseball and football. That's alright. Just because he can't play baseball or football, he's got season tickets to see the

Minnesota Twins and the
Minnesota Vikings play professional ball! So he's a season ticket holder – must be a serious Minnesota professional sports fanatic. Yup, Ian's a serious sports fanatic, but he also raves for the Iowa State Cyclones, a collegiate sports team. Go Cyclones!
When Ian's not participating in sports activities, he is enjoying Chicago's nightlife scene, grabbing a few drinks here and there and visiting various pubs throughout the city. But if you want to know his favorite drink, ask him the next time you're at the same event, place, or pub. He'll gladly accept a drink donation. Even though he has a drink or two every now and then, one thing he won't be doing is drinking and piloting a plane.
Ian has recently taken on flying. And, he looks forward to piloting the soon-to-be FastServers One aircraft. No, FS One will not be bigger than The Donald's personal plane. That thing is a jumbo jet. But the four seat single-engine Cirrus SR 20 or SR 22 plane, appropriately branded with 99FS on the tail, is in the works for upcoming trips between FastServers.Net offices. Ian will be piloting 99FS carrying crew back and forth from Cedar Falls, IA to Chicago, IL and vice versa. And check this out, the Cirrus SR 20 and SR 22 are considered to be the fastest single-engine four seat planes in the world! What does that mean for Ian and his crew? With speeds up to 185 knots, that's a one hour trip via plane versus a six hour trip via car!
